How to use Chroma Tattoo
Create a shimmering chrome tattoo effect using our stencil, tattoo adhesive “ink”, and multichrome pigments. The secret is applying a thin, even layer of adhesive, letting it become tacky, then pressing pigment on top for a long-wearing colour-shifting design.
Chrome Tattoos are the easiest way to turn your favourite pigments into wearable body art, perfect for festivals, parties, photoshoots, or adding a little magic to your everyday look.
Why This Works
The tattoo adhesive creates a thin, flexible, long-wearing base that grips onto loose pigment. Once the pigment is pressed over the top, it bonds to the design area, creating a reflective chrome effect that shifts in the light.
How to Do It (Step-by-Step)
Start with clean, dry skin, make sure the area is free from lotion, oil, sunscreen, or body shimmer. This helps the adhesive grip properly and last longer
1. Place your stencil
Apply the stencil to your chosen area
Press down firmly, especially around the edges of the design
Make sure there are no gaps where adhesive could bleed underneath
2. Apply a thin layer of tattoo adhesive
Use a small brush or applicator to fill in the stencil area
Keep the layer thin and even
Avoid applying too much product, as this can make the design less crisp
3. Let the adhesive become tacky
Wait a 15-30 seconds until the adhesive turns tacky, not wet. This is what helps the pigment stick evenly and gives the design its chrome finish
4. Press pigment on top
Use a flat brush to press your chosen multichrome pigment over the adhesive. Tap rather than swipe to avoid moving the stencil or disturbing the design. Build the pigment until the design is fully covered
5. Peel away the stencil
Carefully lift the stencil away from the skin. Peel slowly to keep the edges as clean as possible
6. Set and refine
Gently dust away any excess pigment around the design. Avoid touching or rubbing the area while the tattoo fully sets
The Result
A shimmering chrome tattoo effect
Colour-shifting body art that catches the light
A custom design using your favourite multichrome pigments
Pro Tips:
For even better grip, gently wipe the area with rubbing alcohol and allow it to fully dry before applying the stencil
Apply adhesive in a thin layer for the cleanest result
Wait until the adhesive is tacky before adding pigment
Press pigment on rather than swiping for maximum payoff
Use lighter pigments for a fairy-like glow, or deeper shades for a bold editorial effect
Avoid applying over heavy lotion, oil, or sunscreen for best wear
For extra impact, layer multiple pigment shades into one stencil design
